Art in the Loft 2010
Together with the Dutchess County Arts Council, Millbrook Winery is pleased to feature Art in the Loft. These seasonal art exhibits bring our upstairs loft to life and create a unique opportunity to view the works of talented, regional artists. The gallery is open every day in conjunction with the tasting room hours from May into November.

Summer 2010: July 7 - September 5

The Dutchess County Arts Council is pleased to announce the opening of Art in the Loft: Summer 2010, an exhibition and sale of fine art at the Millbrook Vineyards and Winery. This is the second in a series of three exhibits by talented local artists who were selected in a juried process. In addition, last year’s tremendously successful Wine Label Contest is now an annual event. The 2010 participating artists will each submit work they would like to have featured on a wine label and visitors to the Winery (and to the Winery and DCAC websites) will vote for their favorite piece. The winner will be announced at a culminating event in the fall.

Opening reception is Sunday, July 25, 3:00-5:00pm.

In the Valley of the River

Rebecca Tocci

Rebecca Tocci graduated from the University of Michigan with a degree in fine art, specializing in painting and photography. Over the past 15 years, she has worked in and around the photographic industry, first as a photo agent for a stock agency and currently as a portrait and events photographer here in the Hudson Valley. Her current photographic work has been heavily influenced by her background in painting combined with a love of vintage photography. She uses natural or available light as well as texture to enhance the composition, create mood, and evoke emotion. She tries to incorporate the human element into every image. Actual or implied, it can be seen in a single flower or within the urban landscape. The subject becomes personified to illustrate hope, happiness, despair, or even a certain longing that we all can relate to. Her style of shooting is quick and candid, but the post-processing is thoughtful and specific to each image. She is inspired by the rich history and beauty that surrounds her in the Hudson Valley as well as the energy and design of New York City, all of which play an important part in each and every image.

Rebecca’s recent exhibitions include a series of group shows at Word of Mouth Gallery in Portland, Oregon; Work Gallery in Ann Arbor, Michigan; a juried show at the Putnam Arts Council, and a show at the Belle Levine Arts Center in Mahopac, NY. Rebecca has also been a featured artist on Redbubble.com. Her work can be found in private collections around the country.

Robert Rodriquez Jr.

Robert Rodriguez Jr. is an award winning professional landscape photographer specializing in landscapes of the Hudson Valley. Robert graduated from the Berklee College of Music and was a music producer for 15 years before transitioning to landscape photography.

Seeking to capture the beauty or convey the emotional qualities of a place or moment in nature, Robert’s images have elicited responses ranging from evocative, to spiritual and breathtaking. His current focus is creating images of local landscapes that express a personal vision, and convey a stronger sense of its beauty, depth, and intrinsic quality. They often carry musical overtones and rely heavily on common qualities such as composition, rhythm, and drama.

Robert’s images have appeared in numerous publications, including the New York Times, and his work has been used by many non-profit organizations, including the Mohonk Preserve and Audubon Society. His photography is also featured extensively by Scenic Hudson, a non-profit organization dedicated to land and nature preservation in the Hudson Valley. In addition, he has edited and produced documentary films highlighting the natural beauty of the region. Robert is passionate about conservation and the importance of protecting our natural resources for both current and future generations. Photography is a powerful tool to bring awareness and appreciation of the value and importance of nature and its frequent misuse, especially in the Hudson Valley.

Robert is a respected educator in all aspects of photography including field work and digital editing and printing. He conducts photography workshops and seminars in the region on a regular basis, and has been an invited speaker to industry associations. Robert has also donated his time and photos to educational causes including the Mill Street Loft, Haldane School Foundation, and Clearwater.

Robert’s prints have been purchased by private collectors and commercial clients throughout North America. He is a member of the National Association of Nature Photographers, National Association of Photoshop Professionals, Beacon Arts Community Association, and Beekman Banners Project. In 2009, Robert was recognized by Scenic Hudson as a Hudson Valley Hero for his work and dedication to bring not only awareness, but appreciation, respect, and reverence to the natural beauty that exists in the region.

Stacie Flint

New York artist Stacie Flint’s expressionist oil paintings reflect her life: a colorful, direct, narrative of ordinary moments in the suburban lifestyle, which include people, pets and the things that surround them. In these vibrant oils, imaginary people, pets and things appear isolated, but interact within a bold composition. Even if the figures sit quietly, it is evident that they jump with energy. She paints to organize disparate pieces of her life into a whole and infuses the work with the feeling that it is good to be alive.

Stacie studied at the SUNY colleges of New Paltz and Empire State, exploring through an expressionist eye, painterly realism, mixed media, and abstraction, leading to a focus on the figure as a means to express her life experiences in art.

Stacie Flint's paintings are collected in the United States and Europe ans she has exhibited widely in the Hudson Valley. The images have been used as magazine covers, for children's book illustration ("Ten Pigs Fiddling," by Ron Atlas), on an album cover, and a stage set. Stacie also paints private and public commissions. One of her portrait commissions is in the collection of film director Shawn Levy (Night in the Museum Date Night) and in 2009 she completed five large canvases for Ulster County Area Transit in Kingston, NY, which features staff and passengers of the buses.

Stacie works and lives with her family in the Hudson Valley.

Scott Taylor

Scott Taylor is a Berkshire, MA painter who has been creating art for most of his life. Over that time Scott has drawn his inspiration from many things. Old rustic barns so prevalent in the New England landscape are a major influence for him, as well as wooded pathways, garden flowers and treed ridgelines. Though he does not have formal art training, elements such as color theory and composition have come intuitively to him. His education stems from spending a great deal of time studying the work of artists that he admires - Vincent Van Gogh, Edward Hopper, John Singer Sargent, Wayne Thiebaud and Richard Diebenkorn, to name a few. They, and numerous others, have had varying degrees of influence on his work over the years. Taylor's use of color has become his signature and is apparent when looking at his work. Vibrant color first catches the eye, and through its movement and energy one is drawn further into the painting.

His work has been shown in a number of galleries in Berkshire County, including a solo show “Painting the Town” in 2008 at the Lichtenstein Center for the Arts in Pittsfield. Taylor likes to hang his work in non-traditional spaces; you can find his paintings in restaurants, bookstores and even in medical clinics.
